🌟 Raising Awareness 🌟
Did you know that Pediatric cancer receives ONLY 4% of federal funding for research? In the last 30 years, only a handful of drugs have been specifically approved for children with cancer. Most treatments given to kids are drugs originally approved for adults and later adapted for pediatric use. While progress has been made in certain childhood cancers such as leukemias, brain tumors, and neuroblastoma (AAP, NIH, PMC), far too many kids are still waiting for better treatments — ones that don’t cause lifelong side effects — and for more hope.
One of the greatest challenges we face as an organization is simply spreading the word. We want every family in our area to know exactly where they can turn for support and assistance when facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis. 💛
